Born in a small village in Tchallak, Kzente was captivated from an early age by stories of heroes - gallant and strong women, using their magic to fight courageously in the name of justice against villains and monsters. Ever since she could express the possibility, she's dreamed of her ideal future job: Adventurer.

The main obstacle in her way of this dream was her substandard zephyr proficiency; in terms of the amount of magical energy she could channel at once, she scored at around the 25th percentile. So, rather than rely on magical strength, she honed her mind, out-thinking her opponents when she couldn't out-blast them. An old woman in the village, a former adventurer herself, noticed her cleverness and tenacity, and taught her a new type of magic that condenses zephyr into fine threads. This new technique, combined with her strategic mind, let her punch well above her low power level, and at the age of 16, she became a licensed adventurer.

The typical next step is to join an existing party of adventurers as an apprentice, learning and improving until you're capable of independent action. Kzente, motivated by her desire for freedom and a life where she can do whatever she wants, skipped all this, instead starting her own party. While inexperienced and untested, Kzente's partly slowly grew as she befriended other oddballs from various walks of life.

Kzente's party had their first true test when a massive volcanic eruption blanketed the sky over Tchallak with ashen clouds for weeks. The clouds were transformed by the mysterious force behind the existence of monsters, and soon monsters were forming and attacking all across the nation. A call went out to all adventurers to try and contain the outbreak, and although the peril was great, their ragtag band excelled in the end, defeating a huge and powerful tyrant beast to save the thousands of lives in its warpath.

Adventure is in Kzente's blood. She's a bright-eyed, upbeat dreamer, charging headstrong into the unknown at every turn. She believes in the goodness of others, herself, and the world at large. No matter how dark things get, there is a spark within the human heart that will prevail in the end, so long as you take a stand for your beliefs and never give up.

She's also pretty sexist. Well-meaning, but she did grow up in a society that believes that women are fundamentally superior to men. She doesn't actively belittle or look down on them, but she does have a tendency to put boys on a pedestal. They're beautiful, fragile creatures, and as a girl it's her duty to protect them from harm. Her relationships with guys are made complex by the walls of gender between them making it difficult to accept them as direct peers. She does, at the very least, believe that male and female minds are fundamentally the same, and that the world would be a better place if everyone was treated equally.

At the intersection between her heroic ambitions and her gender-related baggage is Kzente's code of gallantry. It's not a formal code with a specific set of numbered rules, but instead is a set of broad ideals she aspires to. Stand and fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. Oppose those who exploit others for their own gain. Be loyal to your companions. Be Always treat those less fortunate than yourself - especially men - with gentleness, care, and courtesy.

All together, you have someone enthusiastically fighting for good causes, but ones that she was not necessarily asked to fight for. Cheerful and charismatic, she has a tendency to attract admirers without thinking.


Backstory TL;DR:
A mid-rank adventurer, leading a team of fellow oddballs. Notably, the way magical power develops in her world led it to become a matriarchal society, so she has ideas about the societal roles and capability of women and men that might strike others as a bit odd.

Abilities
  • Zephyr: The near-universal ability in her world to draw magical energy, called zephyr, from the air via special breathing techniques. One's proficiency with this ability is indicated by their eye color, with red being lowest and increasing up to violet across the spectrum. Kzente was born with orange eyes, and has trained up to yellow, which is still below average.
  • Combat Training: Common for adventurers. She's medium good with a sword, but values her wits over her fighting skills. Despite being left-handed, she holds her sword with her right hand, leaving the left open for using magic.
  • Thread Magic: A combat magic style adapted for use by those with low zephyr capacity. She condenses smaller amounts of zephyr into fine threads, and uses them to trip, capture, or slice her enemies. A fighting style that favors planning and strategy more than direct clashes of power.
